About the Film

Being John Malkovich is a critically acclaimed film released in 1999, written by Charlie Kaufman and directed by Spike Jonze. The cast included John Cusack, Cameron Diaz, Cathrine Keener and John Malkovich himself.

The story centers on Craig Schwartz (John Cusack) is an unsuccessful puppeteer who lives with his unattractive pet-obsessed wife Lotte (Cameron Diaz). He gets a job at LesterCorp at their offices on floor 7 1/2 and meets the beautiful Maxine (Catherine Keener), and begins to persue her. He discovers a portal which transports him into the consciousness of John Malkovich for 15 minutes and drops him into a ditch by the side of the New Jersey Turnpike.

Craig tells Maxine about this discovery and they starts making money by allowing people into the portal. Lotte is also informed about the portal and becomes obsessed with it once she has tried it. She falls in love with Maxine after spending time with her as John Malkovich, and Maxine reveals that she's attracted to her too only when she is inside Malkovich's consciousness.

The desperate Craig decides to take over John Malkovich's body permanently. He later becomes a successful puppeteer in his name and is married to Maxine. Lotte seeks help from Lester, Schwartz's boss, who has known about the portal for a long time. He has plans of entering Malkovich's body with a group of friends when it is riped. Lester and his cohorts capture Maxine, then call Malkovich to tell Craig they will kill her if he does not leave. Craig reluctantly leaves Malkovich and Lester and his friends are able to enter his body in time to take it over. They enter the portal in time, and it shifts to the next candidate.

Maxine reveals to Lotte that she has fallen in love with her. The two end up living together as a lesbian couple with their daughter , who is the next 'candidate' of the portal.
